Boring Wedding Invitations? 10 Ideas To Get Your Guests Say Yes & Turn Up.

Ask you, when you receive a wedding invitation in Singapore, what's your reaction?

Most of the times, quite sian right? Zzz, red bomb (红色炸弹, which comes to mean time to burst some ang bao money - a token sum to bless the wedding couple). Of course it's not all about the money lah (shifty eyes). If it's your siblings, best friend, buddies, or closed ones, you will be excited!

Aha, that's when you hope their wedding will be tip top and well received by all - rather than to be labeled as another wedding.

So the first thing anybody knows about your wedding is? Yes, the wedding invitations. And this first point of contact is your best chance to make that one and only chance of impressing that invited guest. To get the person to want to RSVP ASAP. So put in the effort and try to break away from the usual templates.

If you have to use the usual templates, then put in some effort for that personal touch that would make that RSVP ASAP difference.

Surprise Us Lah

Whether it's red, or green, or white, whatever the supposed traditional colors for wedding invitations are, please give them a twist - which also means, give us, recipients, a break from obiang (old-fashioned) stuff.

Give us something that stands out from the usual wedding invitation cards. At least bother to attract our attention and let us say, "Eh, not bad, they really put in effort one hor." Even if it's something simple, at least be original lah, surprise us! Rather than when you send us the usual generic kinda cards, our reactions would be "Sian, another red bomb."

Black Is The New Red

Yah your parents would probably flip, if they are really conservative or pan dang (superstitious). But seriously that's the idea what, it breaks the usual conventions. When we receive an envelope, open it up, see a black card, our first reaction wouldn't be "Sian red bomb." In fact it would pique our interest and wanna know what's that!

Then we find out it's a wedding invitation, we will be like, wah cool they defy the usual obiang stuff. And we will be excited about the wedding because we expect the wedding to be fun and different! Even if it's not gonna be too different at the wedding reception or banquet, then it's too bad too sad for us, we have already RSVP-ed - with much success from the well thought wedding invitation - and we are seated at the wedding.

Oriental Need Not Be Boring

Okay so you die-die also cannot use black. But you are very hesitant about the generic wedding invitations. Then be creative! How about, if your parents are very ching-chong go with it, and give it a spin - Chinese fan invitation!

Quite cool for the recipient if you think about it. You open the envelope and you find a fan in it. Definitely create curiosity until you open the fan and... Surprise!

This idea does take a lot of effort if you're going to personalize every invitation by hand. But hey! That's the whole point isn't it, if you take pride in your wedding, you are extremely sincere, it shows on your wedding invitation, and c'mon, Singaporeans as foul-mouthed some of us can be, we do have soft hearts.

Simply Atas

Maybe you have budget to splurge on your wedding. So why not give it a huge bang right?

Yet you don't your wedding invitation to look generic, feel so-so, but you want to keep it simple and subtle. So why not use a slim tin container nicely embellished with a fuss-free ribbon, and when your invited guest opens it, there lies your invitation. Nothing complicated, but the entire packaging gives the impression of a high-end but simple and elegant wedding.

Outrageous Colors & Chic

Honestly, a really attractive wedding invitation doesn't immediately or necessarily translate to spending a lot of money. Perhaps it can be a tad costly if you opt for really good GSM papers. Choose what's most appropriate and fitting for your entire wedding theme. A flimsy paper doesn't mean cheapo you know, if you can do something creative with it, it can in fact bring out a really arty feel to your wedding invitation.

Back to the point, you can go for a really simple, but bold and chic postcard-like wedding invitation. Use really outrageous colors that contrast, with fonts that are trendy and readable, shouting out to your invited guests, RSVP! Well-executed, your guests will be looking forward to your wedding, just to see what other surprises you have in store for them!

At least the younger Singaporeans will be blown away.

SAVE THE DATE!

How about something more fun and straight to the point. On the front of the 2-page card, you can immediately put the tagline, "SAVE THE DATE!". Your invited guest flips it over and sees a calendar that shows them when exactly your wedding is gonna be and where. Thoughtful right?

Short & Sweet

Okay maybe you don't like to have too much text on your wedding invitation. You just want things straight to the point, short and sweet. Swee lah, I tell you most of the Singaporeans will appreciate that.

Front of the 2-page card they immediately see a creative artwork that shows them this is a wedding between you and your beloved, they flip, and immediately they see the date, where is the wedding gonna be, and RSVP by when.

Short and sweet. We all appreciate that.
